Haridwar BHEL completes first upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mount cannon.

Haridwar, Sep 13 – The Defence and Aerospace Department of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully completed the construction of its first upgraded ‘Super Rapid Gun Mount’ (SRGM) cannon. This significant achievement was celebrated during a flag-off ceremony led by BHEL Haridwar Executive Director T.S. Murali, who sent the cannon to Balasore, Odisha.

During the event, Murali emphasized the critical role this advanced cannon will play in enhancing the security of India’s maritime borders. He expressed pride in the efforts of every BHEL worker involved in the project, highlighting the cannon’s advanced capabilities. The upgraded SRGM is designed to target threats across air, water, and sea within a range of 35 kilometers, with the versatility to select various types of ammunition tailored to the target conditions.

This upgraded SRGM is the first of 38 units ordered by the Indian Navy from BHEL. In the upcoming phases, BHEL will deliver an additional 37 upgraded SRGM cannons. Notably, BHEL has a longstanding tradition of manufacturing SRGM systems for the Indian Navy, having supplied a total of 44 guns over the past three decades.

The event was also attended by officials from BHEL and the Indian Navy, as well as representatives from their Italian partner company, Leonardo, underscoring the collaborative efforts in this important defense development.
