Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 14 – Union Minister Suresh Gopi raised concerns on Saturday about the lack of initiatives by Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kerala in adopting villages for development, in light of the Centre’s efforts in Vellayani. He emphasized that electoral success should translate into concrete assistance for the community.
The Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism criticized the Thiruvananthapuram MPs for failing to contribute to Vellayani’s progress over the years. He expressed his commitment to local development during his tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP, highlighting his efforts to provide essential facilities and infrastructure for the village.
Gopi questioned, “How many MPs from the state can genuinely claim they have adopted a village and facilitated its fundamental development while preserving its rural charm instead of transforming it into a concrete jungle? Winning elections should prioritize the welfare of the people,” he said.
In addition to village development, the Minister stressed the need for more world-class tourism attractions in Kerala. He advocated for the creation of new tourism sites in unspoiled locations to meet contemporary demands.
Furthermore, Gopi emphasized the importance of Vellayani Lake, proposing its development as a reliable drinking water source not only for the state capital but also for ships docking at the upcoming Vizhinjam seaport. He firmly stated, “Consequently, large-scale constructions will not be permitted around the lake.”
