Railway Board designates sensitive roles in traffic and commercial departments, capping tenure at 3 years.

New Delhi, Mar 25 – The Railway Board has announced the identification of specific gazetted and non-gazetted positions within the traffic transportation and commercial departments across all 17 railway zones, establishing a tenure limit of three years for these roles.

In a recent circular addressed to all General Managers of railway zones, the Board emphasized the sensitive nature of the positions held by the secretary to the Principal Commercial Operations Manager (PCOM) and the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM). It stressed that individuals appointed to these roles must possess impeccable integrity.

The Board has mandated that the total tenure for these officers be restricted to three years. Furthermore, it has directed that similar rotation policies apply to non-gazetted staff who serve, either formally or informally, as traffic inspectors to the PCOM and commercial inspectors to the PCCM, as these personnel play a crucial role in significant operational matters.

Additionally, the circular specified that non-gazetted staff working as traffic inspectors to the Senior Divisional Operation Manager and commercial inspectors to the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Dr DCM) should also undergo rotation, with their tenure similarly limited to three years. The Board further indicated that staff members serving as Personal Secretaries to the Senior Divisional Operation Manager and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager should also be subject to rotation.

The Railway Board has urged all zonal railways to implement these necessary changes by April 30, 2025.
