Japanese delegation visits Assam for three days, led by a Japanese speaker.

Guwahati, May 3 – A significant diplomatic event unfolded in Assam as a Japanese delegation, headed by House of Representatives Speaker Nukaga Fukushiro, arrived for a three-day visit. This high-profile visit, which commenced on Saturday, aims to strengthen ties between Japan and Assam.

Upon arrival at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Fukushiro was warmly welcomed by key officials, including Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa, as stated by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a post on X.

The delegation, comprising 45 members, is set to engage in a series of important meetings. They will convene with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and participate in an interactive session with elected representatives at the Assembly. This meeting will also see the presence of Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, followed by a cultural program and dinner to foster goodwill.

On Sunday, the delegation’s itinerary includes visits to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Guwahati and the Tata Semiconductor and Testing Facility located in Jagiroad. Additionally, they will inspect various projects in Assam that are being funded by Japanese aid, showcasing the collaborative efforts between the two nations.

This visit comes on the heels of Chief Minister Sarma’s trip to Japan in January, where he extended an invitation to Fukushiro to visit Assam. The ongoing engagements highlight the growing partnership and mutual interests between Japan and the northeastern state of India. The delegation is scheduled to depart on Monday, concluding their visit.
