Guwahati, May 3 – A significant diplomatic event is set to unfold in Assam as a 45-member delegation from Japan, led by House of Representative Speaker Nikita Fukushiro, arrives for a three-day visit starting Saturday. This visit aims to enhance the ties between Japan and Assam, following a previous invitation extended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his visit to Japan in January.
The delegation is expected to touch down in Guwahati on Saturday evening, where they will first engage in discussions with Chief Minister Sarma. This meeting will be pivotal, as it will precede an interaction with elected representatives at the Assam Legislative Assembly. Notably, Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya will also be present during this significant exchange.
Following the discussions, the delegation will partake in a cultural programme and dinner, showcasing the rich heritage of Assam. On Sunday, the itinerary includes visits to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, and the Tata Semiconductor and Testing Facility, highlighting the technological collaboration between the two regions.
Additionally, the Japanese delegation will explore various projects in Assam that have been implemented with Japanese aid, further solidifying the cooperative relationship between Japan and Assam. The visit is seen as a crucial step in fostering economic and cultural ties, with Chief Minister Sarma expressing optimism about the outcomes of this engagement.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Sarma warmly welcomed Fukushiro and his delegation, stating, “A warm welcome to H.E Nukaga Fukushiro and Japanese delegation to Assam. I am confident this visit will further strengthen the strong bond between Japan and Assam and give momentum to the strong headway made during my visit to the country earlier this year.”
This visit not only marks a significant diplomatic engagement but also reflects the ongoing commitment to collaboration and development between Japan and Assam.
