Palghar (Maharashtra), Aug 16 – The Virar police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a murder case dating back to 2016. The arrest was made on Friday following an extensive investigation that lasted several months, according to senior inspector Shahuraj Ranavare of the Virar Crime Branch.

The suspect, Sonu Achhelal Gupta, originally from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh, is accused of participating in an assault involving multiple individuals during a quarrel on October 30, 2016. The victim, Sonu Parashuram Jha, sustained serious injuries and succumbed to his wounds two weeks later in a hospital.

After the incident, Gupta, who resided in the Ovala area of Thane, fled the scene and had been untraceable until his recent capture.
