Jhansi (UP), Sep 6 – Following an alarming incident involving a woman allegedly attacked by a Pitbull, the Jhansi Municipal Corporation has mandated the dog’s owner to remove the animal from his residence, as the breed is prohibited within the area, officials confirmed on Saturday.
A video surfaced on social media, reportedly depicting the woman from Sipri Bazaar being attacked by the Pitbull. In response to the incident, Dr. Raghavendra Singh, the Veterinary Officer for the Jhansi Municipal Corporation, stated that a team was dispatched to both the dog owner’s residence and the woman’s location upon receiving the report.
Dr. Singh noted that the woman chose not to file a complaint regarding the incident. Consequently, the dog owner was issued a warning and instructed to relocate his pet outside the municipal corporation limits immediately.
The dog owner has expressed his commitment to moving the Pitbull to a farmhouse beyond the municipal limits and indicated plans to file an affidavit confirming this action on Saturday.
Furthermore, Dr. Singh cautioned the public against keeping any banned or dangerous breeds, emphasizing the potential risks these animals pose to the safety of families and the community at large.
In March 2024, the Central Government directed all states to prohibit the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of aggressive dogs, including Pitbull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers, and Mastiffs, in light of increasing reports of dog attacks. A letter dated March 12 from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories also mandated the sterilization of these breeds already kept as pets to prevent further breeding.
