Pakistani teenager sentenced to 100 years in prison for murdering four family members.

Lahore, Sep 24 – A local court in Lahore has sentenced 17-year-old Zain Ali to 100 years in prison for the brutal murders of his mother, brother, and two sisters, a crime committed in 2022. The Additional Sessions Judge, Riaz Ahmed, imposed the sentence on four counts, along with a fine of PKR 4 million.

The court’s decision was based on substantial evidence and witness testimonies presented by the prosecution. Due to Zain’s age, he received four life sentences of 25 years each for the murders instead of the death penalty, as stated by a court official. The sentences will run concurrently.

Zain, a resident of the densely populated Kahna area in Lahore, was known for his obsession with the online game PUBG, often spending hours in his room playing. His mother, Nahid Mubarak, frequently reprimanded him for his excessive gaming. On the day of the incident, Zain reportedly lost control after failing to meet a target in the game and receiving criticism from his mother.

In a fit of rage, Zain retrieved his mother’s pistol and entered her room while she was asleep. He shot and killed his mother, aged 45, along with his elder brother Taimur, 20, and his two sisters, Mahnoor, 15, and Jannat, 10, under the influence of the game. Following the murders, Zain disposed of the weapon in a nearby drain and later confessed to the crime, which has left the nation in shock.
