Diphu (Assam), Oct 24 – In a significant ruling, a local court in Assam’s Dima Hasao district has sentenced two individuals to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in a drug trafficking case. The judgment was delivered by district and sessions judge Md. Yusuf Azad, as confirmed by additional public prosecutor Sanjay Kumar Jadav on Friday.
The two convicted individuals, both from Nagaon district, were found guilty by the court in a case that dates back to 2023. Alongside the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on each accused. Should they fail to pay the fine, they will face an additional three months in jail.
The case was initially registered at Khatkhati police station in 2023 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Notably, a third accused in the case was acquitted by the court, as stated by the additional public prosecutor.
