Srinagar, Oct 24 – A sessions court in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of his minor daughter. Principal District and Sessions Judge, Tahir Khurshid Raina, delivered the sentence after considering arguments regarding the severity of the punishment.

The convict was found guilty on October 15, with officials opting to withhold his identity to protect the survivor’s privacy, as the perpetrator is her father. The case was filed in 2022 at the Women’s Police Station in Anantnag, under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In addition to the life sentence, the court mandated that the convict serve imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life. Furthermore, the court instructed the District Legal Services Authority in Anantnag to facilitate compensation for the survivor, establishing a minimum amount of Rs 10 lakh.
