Kerala climate tech startup awarded Rs 75 lakhs grant from Cochin Shipyard for innovation.

Kochi, Oct 24 – Neiox Eco Cycle, a deep-tech climate startup, has secured a prototyping grant of Rs 75 lakh from Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) as part of the USHUS Maritime Innovation Scheme, according to company officials. The grant was officially awarded during a ceremony at IIM-Kozhikode, where CEO Akhil Raj Pottekkat signed the agreement.

The funding will facilitate the development of the world’s first sustainable, non-toxic, carbon-negative marine hull coating. This innovative material boasts anti-corrosive and anti-biofouling properties. Neiox Eco Cycle’s coating is created from captured air pollutants, which are typically linked to lung damage and cardiovascular diseases. The startup’s approach aims to convert environmental and health challenges into economic opportunities, enhancing ship fuel efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions, and protecting marine ecosystems. This initiative is positioned as a Kerala model on the global stage.

Neiox Eco Cycle is recognized by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and receives support from TBI NIT Calicut and LIVE IIM Kozhikode. The startup focuses on climate action, public health innovation, and sustainable industrial transformation.

Pottekkat emphasized that Neiox’s mission is rooted in the belief that significant environmental and health liabilities can be transformed into economic assets. He noted that the collaboration with CSL highlights Kerala’s leadership in sustainable maritime innovation and the shared goal of fostering cleaner industries and healthier communities.

The event featured notable attendees, including IIM Kozhikode Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Sarkar, CSL Chief General Manager (Design) KR Anjana, Senior Manager Krishna Prasad S, and LIVE IIM Kozhikode Senior General Manager Lijo P Jose.
