Karachi, Oct 24 – Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen publicly responded to a legal notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by tearing it up in a recorded video. The PCB had threatened to blacklist Tareen and terminate his franchise contract unless he publicly retracted and apologized for his critical remarks regarding the management of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The conflict escalated after Tareen, a member of a prominent business and political family, voiced his concerns multiple times on social media and podcasts about the PCB’s claims of PSL success and its overall management. In a recent podcast, he asserted that the PSL had fallen to the fifth or sixth rank among global leagues due to mismanagement.
Rather than remaining silent after receiving the notice, Tareen took to social media to mock PCB officials. In the trending video, he sarcastically performs the apology while criticizing the PCB and PSL management, ultimately tearing up the legal notice and declaring it his “apology.”
This bold move indicates Tareen’s readiness for a legal confrontation with the PCB, as he shows no intention of backing down. Speculation suggests that Tareen’s criticisms may stem from a desire to diminish the PSL’s valuation as it marks its 10-year anniversary.
Sources indicate that the PCB was compelled to issue the notice due to Tareen’s alleged breach of contract clauses. Tareen’s franchise, Multan Sultans, is one of the most expensive in the PSL, with an annual fee of USD 6.35 million paid to the PCB, the highest among the six franchises. He claims that Multan Sultans has invested 7 billion PKR in PSL-related cricket activities.
