PM Modi expresses condolences for Andhra bus fire victims and announces ex-gratia compensation.

New Delhi, Oct 24 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bus fire incident in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, which resulted in the loss of lives. In a statement on X, he stated, “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.”

The incident occurred when a private bus en route to Hyderabad collided with a two-wheeler near Chinnatekur, leading to a devastating fire that claimed at least 12 lives. Modi extended his condolences, saying, “My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

In response to the tragedy, the Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased individual. Additionally, the injured passengers will receive Rs 50,000.

Initial reports indicate that approximately 40 individuals were aboard the bus at the time of the collision. The motorcycle involved was dragged beneath the bus with its fuel cap open, which ignited the fire. Compounding the tragedy, the bus door jammed due to a short circuit, resulting in the vehicle being completely engulfed in flames within minutes. Most of the survivors were reported to be between the ages of 25 and 35, according to police sources.
