Tripura CM vows exemplary punishment for those involved in Dhalai attack.

Agartala, Oct 24 – Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that those responsible for the attack on officials and civilians during the bandh in Dhalai district on October 23 will face severe consequences. This statement follows an incident on Thursday evening where bandh supporters attacked individuals at Santirbazar, a protest organized by the newly formed Tripura Civil Society (TCS).

The violent incident resulted in injuries to twelve individuals, including Block Development Officer (BDO) Abhijit Majumdar, engineer Animesh Saha, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Samudra Debbarma. CM Saha condemned the actions of the bandh supporters, labeling the attack as a disgrace to the movement. He emphasized that not only were officials attacked, but significant looting occurred at the village market as well. After visiting the injured officials at GBP hospital, he reiterated that those involved would receive exemplary punishment.

In response to inquiries about the perpetrators, the Chief Minister referenced a previous post on his official Facebook page, indicating that he had already identified those behind the attack. He expressed strong condemnation of the violent actions by Tipra Motha supporters, which targeted Majumdar, Saha, and local residents. He instructed the administration to take immediate and strict action against the individuals responsible for the violence.

Tipra Motha, a junior partner in the BJP-led government, has been at the center of the controversy. In a video message, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, who called for the statewide bandh based on an eight-point charter of demands, expressed gratitude to the public for their participation. He stated that the bandh’s success would serve as a precedent in the state.

Debbarma acknowledged that clashes occurred between two groups at Santirbazar, resulting in injuries to three tribal individuals. He expressed regret over the incident and extended his sympathies to those hurt. Although he intended to visit Santirbazar, he was advised against it by the Director General of Police (DGP).
