Woman doctor in Satara dies by suicide, alleges rape by two cops; CM orders suspension.

Pune, Oct 24 – A tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra’s Satara district where a woman doctor from a government hospital allegedly took her own life, leaving behind a suicide note that accused two police personnel of rape and mental harassment. The victim was discovered hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan late Thursday night, prompting immediate police notification.

The deceased, originally from Beed district, was employed at a government hospital in the Phaltan tehsil. In response to the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis contacted the Satara superintendent of police, directing the swift suspension of the police officers named in the woman’s suicide note.

Fadnavis, who oversees the Home Department, emphasized the necessity for stringent action against all individuals implicated in the case, as stated in a release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). The suicide note, inscribed on her palm, detailed allegations of rape and mental harassment by the two Satara police personnel over a five-month period.

The note specifically accused sub-inspector Gopal Badane of multiple instances of rape and sexual harassment, while another officer, Prashant Bankar, was accused of mental harassment. An official from the Satara police confirmed that a case has been registered, and the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Investigations into the allegations outlined in the suicide note are currently underway.

Rupali Chakankar, chief of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, stated that they have acknowledged the situation and have instructed the Satara Police to take decisive action against the accused. Teams have been mobilized to locate the suspects, with a firm commitment that those responsible for this tragic event will face consequences.
