Pune, Oct 24 – A woman doctor from a government hospital reportedly committed suicide in Maharashtra’s Satara district, leaving a note that accuses two police officers of rape and mental harassment, according to police reports on Friday.
The victim was discovered hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan late Thursday night, prompting police intervention. She was originally from Beed district and was employed at a government hospital in Phaltan tehsil.
In a suicide note inscribed on her palm, the victim claimed she had endured rape and mental harassment by two Satara police personnel over the past five months. She specifically accused sub-inspector Gopal Badane of multiple instances of rape and sexual harassment, while another officer, Prashant Bankar, was accused of mental harassment.
Authorities have initiated a case, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Investigations are underway regarding the allegations detailed in the suicide note, as confirmed by an official from the Satara police.
Rupali Chakankar, the chief of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, stated that the commission has taken notice of the incident and has directed the Satara Police to take stringent action against the accused. She mentioned that teams have been deployed to locate the suspects, emphasizing that those responsible for this tragic event will face consequences.
