Ranchi, Nov 8 – On Friday, Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, officially opened a state-of-the-art sports complex dedicated to the citizens of the country. This new facility has been specifically designed to support the cricket, football, and hockey teams of the CAG.
The C&AG Institution boasts a wealth of talented athletes who compete in various tournaments against some of the top teams in India, including those from the railways. A CAG official emphasized the importance of this centralized sports facility, stating that it will provide a dedicated space for regular practice, enhancing the teams’ performance.
The sports complex will serve as a hub for competitive sports, focusing on fostering talent rather than recreational activities. It aims to facilitate outdoor sports disciplines while also allowing local players to utilize the facilities for their training.
Plans are in place to expand the complex to include indoor sports facilities, such as badminton and table tennis, in the near future.
The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD) resumed the recruitment of athletes under the sports quota in 2010, aiming to achieve excellence in five key disciplines: hockey, cricket, football, badminton, and table tennis. Since the initiative began, the IA&AD has successfully recruited 1,493 talented sportspersons across these disciplines, with 211 athletes joining the ranks in 2023 alone.
