Mumbai Meteors defeat Bengaluru Torpedoes in Match 34, securing the top position in PVL 2025.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 23: In a thrilling encounter at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, the Mumbai Meteors triumphed over the Bengaluru Torpedoes with a scoreline of 15-13, 15-13, 18-20, 15-10 in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia. This victory secured the Meteors the top position in the league standings. Shubham Chaudhary earned the Player of the Match title for his outstanding performance.

With the league stage concluded, the Meteors, having finished first, are set to face the fourth-placed team in the first semi-final scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2025. The Bengaluru Torpedoes, who finished second, will compete against the Ahmedabad Defenders, who secured third place, in the second semi-final on the same day.

The match commenced with the Meteors taking an early advantage, orchestrated by setter Om Lad, who effectively directed the play. Mathias Loftesnes and Shubham Chaudhary consistently challenged the Torpedoes’ defense with powerful spikes. Despite the efforts of blockers Jishnu and Mujeeb to bolster Bengaluru’s defense, Chaudhary’s precision in finding gaps allowed the Meteors to establish a lead.

In the absence of Matt West, Bengaluru’s setter Sandeep successfully connected with Joel Benjamin on several occasions. However, Mumbai’s Petter Ostvik remained vigilant, executing crucial blocks. Amit Gulia’s aggressive spikes further pressured the Torpedoes, enabling the Meteors to gain control of the match.

Bengaluru’s defense improved with Penrose teaming up with Mujeeb, but Amit Gulia continued to apply pressure for Mumbai. Bengaluru managed to regain momentum and claimed one set back with a spike from Penrose.

Service pressure from Karthik shifted the momentum back to the Meteors. Ostvik’s consistent blocking in the middle proved pivotal, while Om’s crafty slow serve caught Penrose off guard, allowing the Meteors to extend their lead. The match concluded with a decisive block from Loftesnes, securing the Meteors’ position at the top of the league stage.
